It’s been over a year and I still miss Los Pos

Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all

Its been over a year since Los Potrillos, a Mexican restaurant on the corner of Church and Rosemary, closed its doors to be replaced by a Marriott hotel.

The restaurant was hands-down everyone’s favorite taco spot in Chapel Hill. It was not a true birthday, cocktail or night on the town without stopping by Los Pos for a bowl of salsa and a gigantic lime margarita.

Walking past the fenced-in pit where Los Pos used to stand is just a painful reminder of what was and what will never be again.

I thought after a year, the Los Pos-sized hole in my heart would be filled with queso from Monterrey and Bandido’s fun basement-like feel, but I am not sure I will ever love a plate of chicken fajitas like I loved Los Pos’.

Last February was a hard time for all of us. When I think back on it, I wonder if it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

With Chapel Hill’s many memories of the best restaurant on Rosemary, surely it must be better to love. Still, I will dream of the restaurant’s Carne Asada and cry myself to sleep for many nights to come.
