All of the best Valentine’s Day activities around UD, for any kind of budget

Because making Valentines for your Psych100 class may make you the subject of study…

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and with the semester just kicking in, it’s easy for time to have gotten away from you, and for Valentine’s Day to have been inadvertently brushed under the rug.

But don’t fret, we here at The Tab UD have put together a list of things to do for any budget around campus, whether you’re celebrating with a group of good friends, treating yourself for a day, or having a more traditional celebration with bae.

Take a walk around the Reservoir at White Clay

Nothing says romance like a nice scenic walk! So bundle up, grab a bae (or a few), and take in some really great views. Want to make it a little extra? Get some Starbucks to take on the walk to help your mittens keep those fingers warm.

Price: $0-5.00

Make Jim your Valentine

When we say Jim, we really mean gym. The Little Bob has 44 classes a week, from yoga to body pump, so treat yourself to a good workout and a great feeling!

Price: $5

Relax with some UDairy

Grab your S.O., or a group of friends, and head down to UDairy for a scoop or a milkshake. It’s easily the best ice cream around, and nothing says love like some extra sprinkles.

Price: $1.95-$4.25

Have a Galentine’s Day party

They said it best on Sex and the City, significant others are great and all but our real soulmate is a group of really good friends.

So get your Leslie Knope on and make sure they know how much you appreciate their love and support! Head to Walgreens and grab some candy and hot chocolate, then have everyone bring their pillows and blankets over to your dorm, apartment, etc. Snuggle up with some good friends, snacks, and a movie. If you want to add a little extra, get some pink streamers from the Five and Dime on Main and a pack of cards for some post movie Kemps.

Price: Max $20 (including cost of Netflix subscription)

Grab dinner on Main Street

Whether you’re just looking for some good food other than the dining hall or you want to go all out, you can hit up Main Street. For something more low key, you can always hit up Chipotle or Roots, and to go all out we recommend Taverna or Cafe Gelato. For something in between, Iron Hill or Del Pez are great options! Expert Tip: kiss in line at Qdoba* and get a free burrito.

If this isn’t bae

Price: $10-$60

*At participating locations.

Get out of Newark for a bite

Newark is lovely, it is wonderful, but a change of scenery is always a plus. This one requires a car, but if you want something different, you could take a ride over to the Christiana Mall for another wide range of restaurants. For something more casual we suggest Noodles, to go all out the Cheesecake Factory never disappoints, and for something in the middle California Pizza Kitchen has your back.

But be warned: for those on a budget, the Christiana Mall is dangerous territory.

Price: $10-$60

Go to Rainbow Records and Brewed Awakenings for a good read and a latte

If you want to spend some quality time with yourself, there is no better way than with a great new read. Rainbow Records has thousands of books starting at $1, and a really great atmosphere if you want to stay a while and poke around. After finding your new favorite biography or novel pop in a few doors down to Brewed Awakenings to get the best latte on Main Street and crack the cover of your new friend.

Price: $5

Get a mani-pedi

Treat yourself or go with a little group for some pampering. There are tons of nail salons around campus (like Endless Summer on North Chapel for example) so why not get a little done up? Whether you want pink polish for the holiday or nails as black as your soul, it’s always nice to have a new look.

Price: Approximately $20

Participating authors: Alyssa LePera, Ashley Stahmer, Devin Bulger, Hannah Barr, Kayla Doernberg, Lisa Pham, Victoria Vallone, Isabelle Perlman, Kacey Cornely, Caity Ryan & Ella Tomko.
