UCI named best college for low-income students

We’re number one!

Everyone knows how expensive college is. It’s hard to afford at the best of times. And it can be harder for students from the low socioeconomic backgrounds. Luckily, us Anteaters have some great support from our school.

The New York Times released their College Access Index through The Upshot.  This ranked schools based on the students that receive Pell Grants, the graduation rate of those students, and the college’s price. Universities were given a score based on those factors and scores higher than one indicate more effort for supporting students.

With a Freshman class of 5,449, UCI had a Pell Grant share of 40 and gave out a $11,000 endowment per student. We sat at the very top with a score of 1.91.

The UC system dominated the top ten and our streak was only interrupted by the University of Florida at number 7. UC Davis followed closely at number two with a score of 1.62.  Harvard sat at number 11 with a score of 1.30. Basically, we’re killing it.
