Guns will be allowed on University of Tennessee’s campus

Along with 50 other state institutes

The bill to allow guns on the University of Tennessee’s campus has now become a law. Educators and full-time staff at public universities and colleges will soon be allowed to carry handguns on campus. The law will go into effect on July 1, 2016.

According to Reuters this will affect 50 state schools even though it was opposed by the University of Tennessee system and the State Board of Regents.

Governor Bill Haslam allowed this to become a law after it was easily passed with 69-24 votes in the House and 28-5 votes in the Senate last month.

When asked how this new law made freshman Marissa Rogers feel she replied: “It could potentially be pretty dangerous but the constitution allows you to carry guns. At least they still need a carry permit.”
