Thanks to our brand new contract with Aramark, Temple students will have more food options available

By this fall, The Student Center will be the home of vendors such as Chick-fil-a, Saladworks, Starbucks, and more

By the time syllabus week hits this fall, Temple University’s Student Center food court will be the brand new home of popular food restaurants such as Chick-fil-a, BurgerFi, and Saladworks.

This is all thanks to Temple’s new 15-year contract with Philadelphia based dining services partner, Aramark.

The construction on the Howard Gittis Student Center food court, in addition to construction of the Student Center Atrium, will begin after the spring semester and start in May. The project will commence in August, just in time for the fall semester. The reconstruction of the floors, lighting, and wall space will begin and the space will also be outfitted with new furniture.

This reconstruction of the Student Centers’ dining locations will add new, popular restaurants to Temple’s already diverse dining facilities. The new Valaida D. Walker Food Court will bring in a total of 7 new dining options to Temple:

BurgerFi; a “gourmet hamburger restaurant”, where all items are made from scratch with 100% natural ingredients

Chick-fil-a; a popular chicken-based American fast food restaurant chain

Saladworks; fresh custom salads, sandwiches, soups, and more!

Twisted Taco: Tex-Mex food chain offering tacos, burritos, burgers– and margaritas?

Which Wich Superior Sandwiches: American fast casual resturaunt chain specializing in salads and sandwiches.

Zaya Mediterranean Grill: provides a blend of incredible, unique ethnic foods rooted from the “Mediterranean Diet”, coined as the “healthiest diet in the world!”

Zen Asian Fusion Restaurant: delicious Asian cuisine!

In addition to these new restaurant additions in the food court, a large Starbucks will be built in the Atrium, which is right beside the entrance to the food court.

Temple students are pumped to try new dining options this fall. Some took their excitement to Twitter to share the news:

Chick-fil-a is certainly the star of these renovations, with interesting insights from Chick-fil-a lovers and haters. The reason is purely out of love for the chicken. As commented by Media Studies and Production freshman Brianna Dent, “Morally Chick-fil-a is my biggest nightmare but they prepare some goooooood chicken.”

No matter the love for chicken, students are worried about the lines that will come with these new dining options. As freshman Qadree Fletcher noted, “those lines are about to be some bullsh*t”. However, there is no need to worry, as this project will also include updated formatting of the facility to improve foot traffic congestion.

The food court will also be reconstructed to seat 750 people, which amplifies the amount of meeting and study space. This space can also be used for events.

The Game Room in Student Center South will also be the home of 2 new food delivery kiosks.

In addition to renovated dining options, the front desk area of the Student Center will also be reconstructed.

The northern entrance to the Student Center at 13th St. and Montgomery Ave. will be blocked. All visitors will enter the Student Center through the south lobby.

Oh, and seniors– sorry.
