A ‘Day Without Immigrants’ hits Philly and other cities across America

Businesses around the country honor their immigrant employees by closing, and respecting their absence from work and school

In response to the numerous attempts our Presidential Administration is making to ban immigrants from entering our country—people around the country are continuing to fight those attempts.

Today is “A Day Without Immigrants”, in which participating immigrants agreed to miss school, work, and avoid shopping to demonstrate where our country would be without them.

With the temporary ban on refugees, certain immigrants and also the intention of implementing an United States-Mexico border wall—protestors around the country want to show the impact of their not presence.

Many protests are taking place around the country, such as Washington D.C., Boston, Austin, and Philadelphia.

Protests have also hit more local areas, such as Norristown, Pennsylvania.

To celebrate, and support, businesses around Philadelphia have closed to remind us the important role that immigrants play in their daily business operations. A few restaurants previously committed to honoring this day by shutting down completely.

There are also other businesses in Philadelphia that chose to stay open while respecting their immigrant employees choice to not come into work today.

Protestors are gaining support from observers around the world and our president has yet to comment on this issue.
