RU student hit by RUPD car while crossing the street

The victim has not been identified yet

On Saturday, March 24th a Rutgers student was struck by an on-duty police car after attempting to cross a busy street on Cook Campus.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. near the intersection of Dudley and Biel Road, which is known to be a very high traffic area in New Brunswick.

Emergency responders immediately evaluated the scene and found that the victim displayed no serious injuries after declining any further medical care.

Commenting on the incident, Rutgers spokesperson Karen Smith stated, “The accident was the result of the pedestrian running across the roadway outside the crosswalk from behind a stopped bus between vehicles stopped in traffic.”

Smith also shared that neither the student or the Rutgers Police Officer received any citations as a result of the accident, and that the officer involved will not be facing any disciplinary action.

Rutgers officials have since declined to release the identities of the officer and the student involved.
