RU grad students win international competition, beating out 600 other teams

It was one of the biggest financial competitions in the world

A group of five Rutgers Business School grad students beat out 600 other collegiate teams to win the CME Group Trading Challenge, being the first American university in three years to earn first place.

The Rutgers team consisted of Zhihao Zhou, Jiachen Chu, Chengran Su, Cheng Xu and Wanyu Zhang. All five members are Chinese international students, and dubbed themselves the “Oriental Lions.” The team was given simulated money to trade on a live electronic trading platform. The team placed in the top 10% in the first round and went on to blow the competition out of the water, placing in first. Runner-ups included Carnegie-Mellon University and Columbia University.

Each member took home a $1,500 prize and will also attend a market education conference in Chicago next month.
