DMAIG Mosaic commemorates THON’s journey and captures its legacy

The DMAIG mosaic includes pictures from every year of THON

Today the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group revealed a mosaic that will capture THON’s legacy.

Melanie Harris, the Board Director of the Mosaic Project, and a Penn State Class of 2002 graduate, said she thought of this idea when she saw the Mario Lemieux Foundation’s Mario Mosaic. This was a mosaic in Consol Energy Center that had a picture of Pittsburgh Penguin Hockey players and raised money for cancer research in 2011.

“When I saw it I thought that this would be something perfect for us to do for THON,” said Melanie.

She wanted to get a permanent dedication for THON that would also raise money for the cause.

The mosaic is made from a company called Picture Mosaics that lets companies make a custom design with pictures inside the mosaic.

The creators of the DMAIG mosaic allowed THON supporters to make a donation to have their picture featured in the mosaic.

“It’s a way to commemorate THON and alumni as we keep growing of alumni of THON,” said Ashley Waters, the DMAIG past President from 2016 to 2017.

The mosaic features pictures from every THON year, including pictures of Joe Pa, the Nittany Lion, Four Diamonds Children and much more.

“I think it’s really great that we have a permanent dedication to THON on the campus,” said Melanie.
