Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow at Café last night

He was a little early for 55 Days

Penn State is no stranger to hosting celebrities, but generally, these special guests tend to be humans. You know, like Kanye West and Amy Schumer. But yesterday, campus was graced by the most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania—Punxsutawney Phil.

From 4:30-6:30 Tuesday night, you could find Phil hanging out at Café 210 with a pitcher of tea in his little paws (when we asked him his favorite flavor, he didn’t respond, but we think it was probably Pomegranate) because he was promoting his beer, the “Punxsutawney Philsner” made by the Penn Brewery.

Yes, on top of his psychic abilities to predict the weather with his shadow, he is also a brew master. Phil has been predicting the weather for over 120 years and apparently needed a bit of a career change and something to keep him busy on every day that isn’t February 2.

The crowd at Café was definitely unique. Men in top hats greeted us, gave us coins inducting us into the “Punxsutawney Groundhog Club” and of course gave us a sample of the “Philsner,” which honestly wasn’t half bad. Phil was kept in a plastic dome, while children (yes actual children were in Café), students and adults all waited in line to meet the hog—who was sleeping and not in the least bit interested or proud of his accomplishments. Shame.

If you couldn’t manage to convince your professor that this definitely counts as an excused absence, here is a recap video of the magic that is Punxsutawney Phil.

Does this mean that Gus, the second most famous ground hog in Pennsylvania, will come for a visit and sprinkle College Avenue with lottery tickets?
