There’s a black bear roaming around near UO

Keep your eyes peeled and police on speed dial

A black bear was spotted walking around the streets of west Eugene, just 15 minutes from Oregon’s campus.

According Register Guard, four people reported the sighting on Thursday morning between 12:30am and 5am.

The witnesses reported the sighting, and said that the bear was estimated to weigh in at  at 200 to 300 pounds.  It was first spotted near the swimming pool at the Devonshire Hill Apartments at Oak Patch Road and West 16th Avenue.

Despite the bear walking around apartments and through yards, no one was hurt.

The guard also reported that the Eugene Police Department was called and Oregon State Police also got involved, but were told to say clear in fear of startling the bear. As of right now, the bear is still wandering the streets of Eugene.
