UMD police pepper spray students at Courtyard party and arrest two

Video footage shows officers holding students down

A party at a UMD Courtyards Apartment on Friday night resulted in the arrests of two students. The UMD police department is now being investigated after two officers used pepper spray to detain students at this party.


Police were called to the scene after a noise complaint and a report of a fight.

A 21-year-old girl, Brittney Kiara Hunter, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct, one count of obstructing and hindering and one count of failure to obey lawful order.

A 20-year-old girl, Montee Shaquan Hunter, was also arrested at the scene. She was charged with one count of disorderly conduct, two counts of obstructing and hindering and one count of failure to obey lawful order.

Videos of last night’s events have been circulating Twitter and have been retweeted over a thousand times. Multiple users have also been expressing their views on the incidents.

President Wallace Loh tweeted saying UMD is reviewing the video footage.

The review of both the incident and the police department may lead to consequences for the involved parties.
