We found traces of cocaine in McKeldin Library

We looked for the blue, and found the white

It’s no secret Maryland has had its fair share of cocaine incidents. In June of 1986, all-star basketball recruit Len Bias was found dead in his dorm of a cocaine overdose only two days after being selected by the Boston Celtics as the second overall pick in the NBA draft.

Pulsefeedz released an article earlier this year displaying the contents of the Terp_Nation Snapchat account (since taken down), which affirmed that UMD is still dealing with its share of cocaine.

So where are students snorting the blow? We went on the hunt.

These MMC Cocaine Trace Wipes detect the presence of cocaine by turning a light blue color.

We took to McKeldin Library and the Smith School of Business to test for traces of the stimulant.

Smith School of Business

First we checked the desk chairs outside the classrooms.

Negative. Looks like business majors aren’t getting their fix in the hallways…

Then we checked the lecture room.

Negative. Guess they aren’t doing it in class either?

The study room? The bathroom?

Nada. The business school turns out to be a bust.

Next we headed to the McKeldin library and found that students are doing more than homework inside these walls…

McKeldin Library

POSITIVE. Sixth floor women’s bathroom.

The trace residue was found on top of the toilet paper holder.

What we found out:

  1. You should think twice before putting your phone on top of the toilet paper holder (just in case).
  2. We should either be really impressed with the students here at Maryland or with the UMD cleaning staff, as we really expected to find more residue.
