Ithaca College student dies after a stabbing at Cornell

It happened following a large brawl

An Ithaca College student died and another was hospitalized following a stabbing last night.

The incident occurred on Cornell University Campus, where a large brawl had broken out.

The student was pronounced dead at Cayuga Medical Center, another Ithaca College student who was stabbed in the incident is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a regional trauma center.

According to The Cornell Daily Sun, the Cornell police responded to a large brawl at approximately 1:57 a.m. on Sunday and found the two students stabbed in front of Olin Hall at Cornell University. Bangs Ambulance and more than half a dozen Ithaca Police Department vehicles also responded to the crime scene.

The Ithaca Police Department said the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit is investigating the crime scene and witness interviews are underway.

The names of both students remain anonymous until their families are informed.

Ithaca College is offering counseling to students at the Circles Community Building beginning at 10 a.m. and a community gathering is being planned.

President Tom Rochon said, in a message to students: “In the meantime, I hope you will hold these students—along with their families, friends, classmates, and professors—in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult and tragic time.”
