How to get the most out of Iowa vs. Iowa State weekend

Win or lose, we still booze

The Iowa vs. Iowa State football game is one of the best weekends of the school year. It doesn’t matter where the game resides, each town is sure to show you a good time. The only reason Iowa City isn’t lame on this weekend is because Iowa State students flood the city to show their undying love for the Cyclones. The game takes place in Iowa City on Saturday, so get your game face on because you won’t want to miss this one… no one is saying  you have to remember it though.

Have some heart

One of the best things about Iowa State is the insane amount of love we have for our school. You can bet your bottom dollar we will be singing “With the will to do or die, RAH RAH RAH…” until the end of the weekend. There is really no competition amongst the Iowa fans. We bring the excitement to the game every year, you’re welcome Iowa.

Stay hydrated

There will be plenty of liquids in high supply this weekend. Whatever your choice of beverage is for the festivities, make sure water makes an appearance every few hours. It will most likely be hot, so acquiring dehydration won’t be that difficult. Not saying you have to drink water to sober up, just make sure you give it a chance a couple of times throughout the day. It will most likely help with the unpleasant hangover the next day. Drink water, don’t be that girl.

Mingle

Tailgating is a very social activity. Don’t sit in the corner and sip on your drink like a loser, talk to people. I know what you are thinking; avoid Iowa fans at all cost. But they are college students too and they love tailgating just like you. Chances are they would love to meet new people. Plus making friends with the locals could increase your chances of attending a rager that night. Don’t shy away from the competition, own it. Go talk to that cute guy/girl wearing the Iowa shirt, I guarantee it will make your weekend more interesting. Sleeping with the enemy…

Be a good sport

We’ve all heard the saying before, “Win or lose, we still booze.” The chant is usually heard by the winning team shortly after the game. Stakes always seem to be high for this rivalry. It can be easy to get carried away with your school pride. But remember, no one likes a sore loser. Isn’t it comforting to know at the end of the night no matter what the score,  we still share the same mentality.

Being the coolest kid at the tailgate shouldn’t be that hard if you follow these steps for success. Be safe kids, and Go State!
