Chapter House will return to save our social lives

Dunbar’s mourners, dry those tears

The Ithaca Landmarks Preservation Commission has released their approved design for the beloved Stewart Avenue bar, meaning that construction can start as soon as late February, 2016.

With only three bars left in Collegetown, the revival of The Chapter House could not have been more timely.

Generally labeled as a grad student hangout, The Chapter House was the old-soul of Collegetown.

Walking in, it’s all flannels and flats with no crop tops or frat tanks in sight. Nobody is taking fruity shots or pounding back LITs. The bouncer was Ruloffs-level hard on fake IDs, so nearly everybody was a jaded junior or older. Just my crowd.

Willard Straight ain’t got nothin’ on Chapter House.

Frequently featuring local artists and always keeping Ithaca Beer on tap, Chapter House was always there for me whenever I wasn’t in the mood for cheap vodka and strobe lights. And even when I was, I would often still end my night sitting on one of their creaky wooden benches eating their free, greasy popcorn from a huge wooden bowl.

So if you’re like me and just want a place to eat, drink, and chill, The Chapter House’s reopening will save your social life.
