Black Students United calls for cancelation of Blackout protest

They cite ‘the lack of people of color’ involved

The Cornell chapter of Black Students United has called for the cancelation of the #ConcernedStudent2015 protest due to the “lack of people of color” involved.

In a message on Facebook this morning, the multicultural organization said they appreciated the “solidarity and interest of our allies across campus” but wanted the demo to be called off.

The protest’s Facebook event describes itself as a “powerful stance against racism and intolerance.”

Immediately after the BSU made their request, several students voiced their opinion in comments.

One questioned whether the BSU could speak for all students of color.

The BSU also claims the individual hosting the demonstration is a “notorious troll.”

In response, several members posted their opinions about the event planner himself and how the BSU should have been included since they represent a large majority of minorities on campus and have planned successful protests in the past.

and…

and finally:

At the time of publication, the organizer had not responded to requests for comment on the BSU’s allegations.
