That aren’t in Columbia

Don’t know any nice places to eat around campus? We’ve got you. From a French-style bistro to new American cuisine, here are six great places to try near Columbia.

Friedman’s, $$

1187 Amsterdam Ave (between 118th and 119th St.)

Relatively quiet restaurant, ideal for lunch for two. Very cozy vibe. Takes pride in its local produce. The service is impeccable and the food arrives relatively quickly. However, be aware that there are no reservations!

Recommended: Friedman’s burger

1260 Amsterdam (122nd St.)

A bit of a hike if you are in the lower campus area but very good food from the Italian NY restaurant Serafina. Accommodates parties of all sizes (for larger parties be sure to call in advance). Great place for a low-key birthday dinner.

Recommended: Four stagioni pizza

Le Monde, $$$

2885 Broadway (Between 112th and 113th St.)

Ideal place to take your parents when they are visiting campus because it is bit too pricey for the average student budget. French vibe with retro poster decor and moules marinières on the menu. Serves delicious brunch.

Recommended: Eggs Benedict

Artopolis, $$

1090 Amsterdam (Between 114th and 113th St.)

Great place for an afternoon snack or coffee that also serves scrumptious crêpes. Very casual vibe. More convenient location a three minute walk away from Low.

Recommended: Three cheese crêpe with pesto

Community Food & Juice, $$$

2893 Broadway (Between 112th and 113th St.)

Like Le Monde, it’s also a good place to take your parents when they are visiting campus but also an option for a nice dinner with friends without venturing out on the subway. Not a vegetarian restaurant but has a vegetarian friendly menu. American cuisine made in its majority from prime organic produce.

Recommended: Crispy wild organic salmon

Dig Inn, $$

Located conveniently on the same block as McBain, Chase and frat row, Dig Inn is an excellent place for an on-the-go meal. Vegetarian and gluten-free friendly menu. Can be crowded especially at lunch time but Dig Inn app is available for shorter waits.

Recommended: Chicken Breast and Sauteed Kale

Westside Market, $$

2840 Broadway (Between 110th and 111th St.)

Although Westside Market is a supermarket, it has delicious prepared meals that you can take home. Its paninis are also superb. Portions are quite large. A convenient walk away from the Nussbaum and McBain dorms, Westside offers the perfect lunch or dinner for the student who is in a rush or too lazy to cook.

Recommended: Turkey Paris panino
