LIVE: Terrier reactions by the half hour

Emotions and reactions of the students packed into BU Central and the Howard Thurman Center

Hundreds of students are in attendance at the election results watch party in BU Central and the Howard Thurman Center.

CNN blares on the screen in the center of the stage. Life-sized cutouts of Trump and Clinton are against one wall where happy students are taking pictures with them.

Throughout the night, we will be updating this article with student reactions.

8:30pm: CNN keeps updating us almost every time Florida goes from Clinton to Trump, and Trump to Clinton. Both Clinton and Trump supporters can be heard as state results come in.

“I’m feeling very anxious,” said Sarah Daebler, a sophomore film and television student. “I’m nervous.”

“Anxious,” said Marta Blasi, an exchange student from Spain, when asked to sum up her feelings.

“It’s going to be so devastating no matter what, but I’m very attached to one result,” said Gloria Ihenetu, a sophomore in CGS.

“So nervous!” said Layan, a junior in CAS. “The Middle East is screwed!”

9:00pm: CNN’s state projections come through, and cheers erupt from the crowd as the projection for New York shows it will be a Clinton state.

9:30pm: The Howard Thurman Center has taken on a much more relaxed compared to BU Central.

In the Howard Thurman Center, students are chatting and working on homework, only piping up when results come in. With that said, the Center’s noise level is nothing compared to the wall of sound coming from BU Central.

10:00pm: Stress and concern is visible on most faces.

“I feel like I’m going to throw up,” said Spencer, a senior in CAS.

A few joyful screams were heard when new results for Virginia showed Clinton in the lead.

To lighten the mood, one television in BU Central has now been turned to a live stream of kittens, and depending on the litter box they poop in, it is a vote for Clinton or Trump. So far Trump has one, Clinton has none.

10:30pm: Trump wins Ohio.

Students are hitting refresh on the results maps open on their phones and laptops as quickly as they can.

Dean Elmore is hanging out in the Howard Thurman Center and talking with students.

“I think Hillary Clinton is going to win, but I don’t think any of the candidates are good for this country, or any country,” said Rocio, a student from Spain. “I’m sorry for the United States.”

11:00pm: Trump wins Florida and students are beginning to freak out.

CNN predictions of Clinton winning in California and Hawaii are met with loud screams, while the prediction of Trump winning Idaho triggers boos from across the room.

11:30pm: Clinton wins Virginia, but Trump wins North Carolina, to the dismay of many students.

On the free expressions poster for why students voted, responses include: “I don’t want sexism, racism, and xenophobia to become normalized in America,” “Who we elect today will affect generations to come,” and “QUESTION 4.”

12:00am: Stomach pains.

Some students in the Howard Thurman Center are complaining of stomach aches after stress-eating too much food.

One student started crying from stress and concern.

12:30am: New Hampshire is causing too much anxiety.

Cheers for Clinton’s win of Maine were silenced as results for New Hampshire continue to come in. At points, as little as 18 votes separated Trump and Clinton in New Hampshire.

A few students are voicing concerns for the potential of riots in other parts of the country.

It is official: recreation marijuana is legalized in Massachusetts and California.

1:00am: BU Central is complete silent for the first time when race is discussed on CNN.

CNN correspondents and guests discussed their opinions on Trump and the chance he will become president, including talking about how Trump will have to prove that he will fairly represent all the people he has disrespected.

1:30am: The viewing party may have wrapped up in the Howard Thurman Center, but it’s still going strong in BU Central.

Nick Fuentes and few other Trump supporters in “Make America Great Again” caps moved to the BU Central viewing party after the one in the Howard Thurman Center ended.

Fuentes and his fellow Trump supporters were met with nasty looks, and some students even yelled at them.

“Bye a–hole!” yelled one student as Fuentes walked by. “F— you!”

Swears were muttered when CNN correspondents said Trump won an unexpectedly large amount of the Latino vote.

One girl announced that over 24,000 people wrote in random nominees on their ballot, including Harambe.

The event finished at 2am.

Students left upset, tired and wanting to forget about the night.

A small group ended with one group hug to spread a little bit of love.

And at just after 2:30am, Wisconsin’s results gave Trump the last electoral votes he needed to win the election.
