Aspen, Colorado is more than just a ski town, it’s my home

Some things you only know if you grew up in Aspen

Aspen, Colorado is known as a playground for the rich and famous. Growing up in such an iconic place left me with many notorious memories. After my freshman year at college, I had to admit to myself that I missed some aspects of Aspen regardless of how much I “hated” the small town my senior year.

There are a few things you only know if you grew up in Aspen.

You have given a little slice of Paradise to someone

Paradise Bakery is located in the mecca of Aspen. It is a hot spot for locals, and tourists. Paradise Bakery stands strong through blistering heat and bitter cold. The cookie cakes were always a classic fan fav, 10/10 would recommend.

You have looked outside your window and not been able to see the sky

During the winter in Aspen, seeing whiteouts are practically routine while on your way to school. Snow covers the ground as a storm covers the skies which makes it difficult to see inches in front of your face.

You ever Instagramed a cliché picture from a hike on Smuggler

Maybe a photo like this has even made an appearance as your cover photo, maybe once or twice? This view is a symbol for Aspenites because it’s a clear depiction of the tiny town and Aspen’s very own mountain.

This is an all too familiar sight…Yikes! Brrrrrrrr

You would be ridiculed for the thought of leaving a heated area with these temperatures waiting for you outside. Dry chilling cold is the only way to describe what waits for you the outside.

You can name where this is

Here’s a hint..It’s a popular run on Snowmass with moguls and good looking Aspenites…

You can name who this was

@gossipgirlaspen is this true? Will no one know? Where is @gossiper now? xoxo

You can name this incredible man

Tom Kim, the number one geometry teacher at AHS. Tom Kim created the most efficient conjectures and even better jokes.

These three ingredients were a staple in your summertime diet

Marshmallows + gram crackers + Hersey’s chocolate = the perfect over the fire treat.

93 degrees got you sweating

I don’t know if it is just me, but if it is June and above 80 degrees I will be found profusely wet and sweating.

You can name the restaurant that this receipt is from

Whether you go to CP Burger to play mini golf in the summer or to go figure skating in the winter it is always a hot steaming destination. I have spent hours in CP’s confined restaurant with friends eating overly priced truffle fries and slurping milkshakes.

This photo describes a majority of how you spend your time in the summer

Tubing down Still water is honestly incredible. On the last day of school my friends and I would have a bottle of champagne float with us as a tradition and form of celebration of making through another year of high school.

You’ve received one of these while your car was parked at the middle school as a junior or sophomore

Point blank the Middle School parking lot is for SENIOR parking. The seniors are required to pay for a sticker to park their car in the parking lot and entitled sophomores and juniors would take the senior parking without having to pay for their stickers. In my opinion if you are a sophomore or junior and park at the middle school you deserve a boot.

You can name who this key car belongs to…And how many snow days he owes us

One word: John Maloy – a very intelligent man. We were tight.

You can name these delightful treats

Deep fried Oreos gave my life meaning. They were the reason I graduated, and probably the reason why I may have a heart attack.

You knew when the smoothie machine was working in the commons that would be the greatest day

The smoothie machine – who knows if it is still alive and well in the Café. When the cafeteria staff finally got that machine cranking it brought joy and full tummies to all.

X-Games weekends was one of the craziest of your life

It was good, it was cool.

Friday night lights looked a little like this

In my opinion Friday night lights were one of my favorite memories from Aspen High School. Our football games consisted of superb views of mountain sunsets and tight football pants.

You have snapped a photo like this while taking off from our little town nestled in the Rocky Mountains

Peace out A-town. I could not count how many of  these photos I have seen on my friends snap stories.
