A Freshman at Brown died over the winter break

Our thoughts are with his friends and family

Noah Arnold ’20, an undergraduate at Brown died unexpectedly during the winter break.

When the University opened last week, the family of Arnold told the university he died while at home in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Noah was interested in Philosophy and Fine Arts, and told his family that he loved Brown.

In an email to the whole university, Dean Mandel said:

“Dear Members of the Brown community,

We write to share very sad news that we received as the University reopened last week. The family of Noah Arnold ’20 notified us that he died unexpectedly during the Winter break while at home in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Noah began his studies as an undergraduate at Brown this past September. He told his family that he loved Brown and was excited about his studies in philosophy, and his discovery of an interest in fine arts. A beloved son, brother, and friend, Noah will be missed by both his family and the Brown community. Plans for a campus gathering to remember Noah are not complete and will be shared as the new term begins.

Please join us in extending our deepest sympathies to Noah’s family, his friends, instructors and all who knew him on the Brown campus.”

Some friends and family have taken to social media to share their memories of Noah.

Dean Mandel’s email continues:

“We know that this loss is difficult and touches all members of the Brown community. We remind students that the staff at Counseling and Psychological Services and the deans in Student Support Services are available to support you either in person or by phone during this time. University Chaplains are available to students as well as to all members of the Brown community.”
