Why Newing is the best community on campus

Hinman doesn’t even come close

I’m sure everyone on campus, no matter what residence community, can argue that theirs is the best, but I’m here to tell you that the jury is in; Newing really is the best.

Now, it’s my second year here living in Newing and I think I have a pretty good idea of what makes this wonderful community so great. First of all, Newing is incredibly friendly. From the open-door style hallways that make meeting people easy and exciting to the eager RA’s that always make an effort to befriend their residents and come knocking when they pass by– which, I’ll admit, may not always be at the best time, but it’s always a good feeling to have a close relationship with your RA.

On top of all of this, there is a huge sense of community in Newing not just in your building, but all throughout the different buildings. I’ve had friends in each of the four buildings, and although a sense of pride rises for one’s own during Newing Navy, there is a very open sense of friendship throughout the rest of the year.

Another thing that makes Newing so great is how beautiful a community it is. The updated buildings are pleasing to look at and add a pop of modern architecture with their panels of glass down one side, a refreshing change from some of the older buildings on campus. Not the mention the mountains, which peek out from a little bit beyond campus and are just about visible from almost every room.

The expansive, lush green field in the middle of all the buildings (which is definitely easier on the eyes than a giant pile of dirt) is the focus of the community and the center of Newing as a whole; it’s the setting for many of our events and games throughout the year. Newing seems to bask in the sunlight on Binghamton’s scattered sunny days, and the residents themselves bring a sunny disposition to our community as they soak up the sun and enjoy what our beautiful
community has to offer; the amount of people outside playing volleyball, basketball, football, frisbee, or just sitting out and enjoying the day is impressive while it’s still warm out

That’s what really makes Newing so great; the people. Maybe it’s because living in such a nice community makes us happier and gives us a sense of pride, or maybe it’s because we all just get along so well, but we really are just so happy to be here. Newing was most likely everyone here’s first choice when it came to picking where to live, and all we’ve come to know is that it was definitely the right decision. Our Newing pride will last long after we move off campus or graduate, because, well, Newing is the best.
