Why it still sucks to BU

Sorry BU, but terriers aren’t threatening

The battle of Comm Ave is a notorious embodiment of the inherent and enduring rivalry between the BC and BU hockey teams.

This season’s battle was highly anticipated, as the two teams were only separated in their pairwise rankings by one place (10 v 11) with BU one place ahead of BC before the first game (now BC is ranked 9th and BU is 12th).

The fight began at our very on Conte Forum on Friday, January 15th at 6:00pm. The BC parking lots and garages were full well before the game and traffic had to be monitored by the police because it was so crowded. Every seat was full as the first puck was dropped, and within minutes the first penalty was drawn, proving this would be a tough, physical, and exhausting battle for both teams.

Ultimately BC was better on all fronts and prevailed as the winner in the first game and held BU to a tie in the second game proving that they were better overall and here’s why…

First and foremost, it simply “sucks to BU,” which is something that this sign captures perfectly.

But even more importantly, right next to that sign is the second reason why BU lost – Jerry York.

York claimed his 999th hockey win during last night’s game against BU. He is the winningest coach in college hockey – many even consider him the “Coach K of hockey.”

But aside from our great and celebrated coach, BU’s cheers just do not compare. Their fan section spent the night cheering “hahaha hehehe go BU” and “Demo sucks,” which really don’t compete with our own tokened “sucks to BU,” “safety school,” and  “Sieve, Sieve, Sieve… you suck at life and goal tending” type of cheers.

There’s an absence of originality that probably led to their defeat.

We have an awesome captain who is influential on and off the ice. Teddy Doherty, a senior English major, is a versatile player who can switch between his primarily defensive role to an offensive one and make big plays that the team needs.

Our mascot is an eagle and their’s is a terrier. Evolutionarily we have the top predator in the food chain. Sorry BU, but terriers are not even threatening to other dogs.

And lastly, we scored more overall.
