Meet the faces behind the infamous Instagram account @genderless_nipples

Their first account was deleted over a male nipple

If you’re not already following genderless_nipples, then you’re probably not on Instagram.

“We know there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity,” Instagram outlined in the most recent update to its guidelines section.

But this glorious account is working to change all of that. Full of gender-indistinguishable nipples, it aims to hi-light the incongruity in rules related to gender on social media.

So we reached out to ask them how it’s going.

Can you tell us a little about the people behind the account?

We are three advertising students who interned together in NY from October-December last year.

Evelyne Wyss (24, Swiss/Dutch, Copywriter), Morgan-Lee Wagner (22, German, Copywriter) and Marco Russo (28, Brazillian, Art-Director).

We are from Miami Ad School Europe, Miami Ad School Berlin and Miami Ad School NY.

Why did you all decide to start it?

We started interning in New York shortly before the elections. During that period, so many horrible things were said by candidates, and their supporters, about women’s rights and gender equality, that we decided we should do something about it. And what better way to start spreading a message of gender equality then by pointing out the rules of social networks?

Regardless of gender, everybody should be treated equally.

Are you opposed to Instagram’s rules?

We are not against the rules, but we think rules should be applied to all genders equally. Society is changing and it’s time for the rules to follow this behavior.

We thought that without men’s hair around the nipple, how could Instagram even tell the difference. We want to show Instagram that their policy is not working in today’s society anymore.

Did you expect it to get as big as it has?

No. Especially because our first account was hacked and deleted by Instagram. Insta deleted a nipple saying it was against community guidelines. Ironically it was a male nipple.

But we reacted instantly and put up a new account — our current one. Then it picked up so quickly we realized it was going to be a bigger project.

It became a bit of a full-time job next to our internships. We’re so grateful people are listening to us. It’s incredible how everyone participates!

What’s the end goal?

We wanted to spark a conversation — get people talking and thinking about it. We’re still hoping for a reaction from Instagram; we want to start a friendly open dialogue with them.

We want to challenge people’s perception of what is sexual, and what actually might not be it at all. It works, people are guessing the gender and all the guesses are different under each photo.

60-70% of all guesses are wrong — proving our point.

 What inspires you guys?

No matter people’s gender, everybody should be treated equally. We are not against rules, but we think rules should be applied to all genders equally.

Society is changing, and it’s time for the rules to follow this behavior. We wanted to spark a conversation!

Can people submit their nipples??

YES! Just send us your nipple to [email protected]. Instructions are posted on our account. We get about 150 submissions daily with such heartwarming messages

It’s incredible. We absolutely encourage it!

In the wake of last week’s inauguration, if you’re looking to spark conversation — but don’t know where to begin — snap a pic of those nips, and send it on to them.

It’s time we all have a say in the “rules.”
