A definitive list of every place single girls need to travel

Some views are better alone

I spent a lot of my life thinking it was only worth traveling somewhere if I was sharing the experience with the so-called right person.

What I wish I’d realized earlier:

  • I am the right person
  • There are a lot of views better taken in alone
  • So here’s list of places that are better experienced alone. You’re single. You have no ties to anything (other than responsibilities — but we can all shirk a few here and there), you’re likely more mobile than ever — and you don’t know how long that’ll be the case.

    Take advantage of it.

    New York City, NY

That’s right. New York Freakin’ City. If you’ve ever dreamed of putting a lone-wolf lifestyle to the test, this is the place to do it.

Apartments are tiny, summers are sweaty as the dickens and twin-sized beds are (you guessed it!) not for sharing.

NYC is one of the most crowded places on Earth, but also has a reputation for being one of the loneliestYou can’t live in a city like this without knowing yourself inside and out.

It will put you to the test both physically and emotionally, but you’ll come out on the other end confident that you’re actually capable of anything.

Go clubbing on the LES, head to a brewery in Williamsburg or stroll through Central Park with nothing but a carefully curated Spotify playlist.

When they say “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere,” the “you” is actually referring to single girls.

Once you’ve learned to catch your own mice and install your own air conditioner, you realize boys are disposable; they come and go, but boozy brunch with the girls is 5ever.

    Dublin, Ireland

Dublin is a single girl’s heaven. Forget Leap Year, throw out that dream of meeting a handsome brooding boy in a dark, grimy pub and dismiss the idea that he would be a person worth dating anyway (??!).

From its nightlife to its rich culture, you’ll be too busy both day and night to miss anyone’s company. Head to The Old Jameson Distillery, buy yourself one of their famously delicious whiskeys and drink the entire thing without sharing a drop.

Take a day trip to the cliffs of Moher. Tell me you haven’t dreamed of running along them and taking in the sights all. by. yourself. Like I said, some views are better taken in alone.

Get lost in Trinity College library and spend hours with nothing but your thoughts. And when you want to spend some more time with your own thoughts, spend a day wandering through the National Gallery of Ireland.

This is the perfect place to clear your head while gaining valuable information about yourself.

    Queenstown, New Zealand

Whether you’re bungee jumping off Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge or jet-boating on the Shotover and Dart rivers, one things is for sure: you will not be thinking about relationships.

White water rafting. Mountain biking. Skiing. Snowboarding. Caving. Paragliding. Whatever you want to do in New Zealand, you can. This is a place for taking chances, and chances are meant to be taken on one’s own.

Queenstown is like the extreme sports, bar-filled land you’ve always dreamt of. Release those inhibitions and buy a ticket — now.

    Taipei, Taiwan

Though Taipei may not be the first place you name on your bucket list, it really should be. Between the street food and night markets, there’s no room for downtime. Who needs sleep when you’re young, wild and single?

Check out the incredible view of  Taipei from the Taipei 101 Observatory, go urban shrimping or visit Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. When you’re done, visit the National Museum or head to Huashan and Songshan Creative Parks for something a bit trendier.

It’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone and visiting a city that’s starkly different from your own culture is a perfect way to do so. Once you realize you can do that, the sky’s the limit. You’ll never have travel nerves again.

    San Francisco, California

Head to Ferry Building Marketplace and spend a day walking through acres of beautiful farmers markets. Sample the cheese and chocolate all you like — this trip is all about self indulgence. You can even spend an evening sipping wine and watching the ferry boats come in and out.

Visit the Golden Gate park. Between the botanical garden, museum and tea garden, you can treat yourself to a pretty stellar solo-date.

Attend a concert at the Fillmore, take a ride on a cable car and ask a stranger to take a photo of you as you walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Or bring a selfie-stick — we’re not judging.

Treat yourself to an ice-cream at the infamous Bi-Rite Creamery. Calories don’t count on vacation.

    Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen is a great place to travel alone because of its reputation as one of the safest big cities in Europe.

You can use a Copenhagen Card on the metro, hop on a bus or board a water shuttle. Public transit here is among the best in the world, so there’s no need for a personal driver — or an outrageous Uber charge.

Copenhagen is also notorious for being quite welcoming to tourists. With such a relaxed way of life and the ability to make connections with just about anyone, this is the perfect place to start anew. Leave your old life behind and give yourself a chance to really explore other versions of yourself.

    London, England

Whether or not you’ve spent time in Westminster, there is more to London than you think. Like New York, it has its touristy areas, but it also offers so much more.

Hit neighborhoods like Hoxton and Spitalfields in East London for a young, fun bar scene (similar to Williamsburg), or take a day trip to Oxford. It’s just a train away, and the two places are so different you’ll feel as if you flew somewhere without spending money on a plane ticket.

If you want to take yourself on a fancy date, head to the top of the Shard and take in the glorious view with nothing but a gin and tonic. Stroll along the Thames or enjoy a ride on the London Eye. Any city is a great place for personal growth.

So if you’re single, looking to learn more about yourself and want to see a bit of the world while you do so, head to any of these incredible destinations. Just make sure your ticket is a one-way.
