Don’t screw this up now, John Kasich

There is still hope for women’s abortion rights in Ohio

Women could be denied the right to an abortion in the state of Ohio if a heartbeat is detected, thanks to the ‘heartbeat bill’ the Ohio Senate passed late Tuesday night.

Governor John Kasich has yet to sign the bill, giving women some sense of hope for the future of abortion rights in Ohio and the rest of the US.

If signed, Ohio women would be denied an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected. A heartbeat is typically detected at around six weeks of pregnancy.

Kasich signing the bill would go against Roe vs. Wadethe Supreme Court’s existing law which gives women the right to an abortion until the fetus is viable, meaning it would be able to live outside the womb. This is usually around 24 weeks.

This bill has been referred to as “one of the most stringent abortion restrictions in America.”

So, John Kasich, what’s it going to be? A brighter future for women’s abortion rights or a slap in our face by men who don’t even have a uterus?
