Where does your candidate stand on the hottest election topics?

Are you with Hillary, feeling the Bern, or for Making America Great Again?

This election cycle is the most important one in the history of America. From issues about foreign policy to women’s rights, this election seems to cover it all. Because of this, the democratic and republican candidates have been quite outspoken about their ideas and proposed solutions in order to garner more votes.

The fate of our country is likely in the hands of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, senator Bernie Sanders, or businessman Donald Trump. Here are their stances and solutions on some major issues.

Terrorism and gun violence

While this is not a new issue for America, it is still by far a HUGE issue, only worsening with ISIS becoming more active and dangerous, radical ideologies and religion spreading, and the number of attacks on innocent people skyrocketing. In 2015 alone there were more mass shootings than there were days in the calendar year. This wasn’t a problem in the 1950s, but now it’s a major crisis.

Bernie says: “I will take the following concrete steps to reduce gun violence: strengthen and better enforce the instant background check system; close the gun-show loophole…”

Hillary says: “I’ll dismantle the global terror networks that supply terrorists and toughen our defenses at home—against both external and homegrown threats.”

Trump says: “I would say knock the hell out of the oil and do it because it’s a primary source of money for ISIS.”

College tuition

For us college students, and those who wish to receive a higher education, this issue needs to be solved immediately. Student loan interest rates are progressing to an even higher level, leaving students with more stress, debt, and problems. The average cost of yearly public university tuition has increased from around $2,000 in 1970 (in today’s dollars) to around $22,000 in 2015. Higher education is pricey.

Bernie wants to make college tuition free and debt-free, which would cost taxpayers and Wall Street executives around $75 billion per year.

Clinton’s proposed solution for this problem is to have ‘debt-free’ tuition, which would be calculated based on your family’s income.

Trump has been on record to say, “these student loans are probably one of the only things that the government shouldn’t make money from and yet it does.” This is about as specific as it gets for his idea about reducing the crippling cost of college.

The environment

Whether you think that global warming is due to human destruction or just a natural change, this issue is very prevalent in today’s world. The powers of nature know no political affiliation. Some scientists believe that it is already too late to stop the future effects of the warming climate. We need to all work together (especially now more than ever) to quickly change to alternative fuel sources and to innovate to save our planet.

Bernie wishes to move the energy system away from fossil fuels and toward a future of sustainable and renewable energy sources.

Hillary‘s proposed solution is to “generate enough renewable energy to power every home in America, with half a billion solar panels installed by the end of Hillary’s first term.”

Trump does not have a solution because he claims: “I’m not a big believer in man-made climate change.”

LGBTQ rights

Recently, equality in the LGBTQ community has become more of an issue in the election; specifically, they are focusing on the insertion of gender-neutral restrooms into public places so that those with a differing genders and sexes can choose which bathroom that they please.

With respect to their rights, Bernie thinks that they should be treated equally as heterosexuals.

Hillary said “we should ban discrimination against LGBT Americans and their families so they can live, learn, marry, and work just like everybody else.”

Trump recently said trans people should be able to use whichever bathroom they want. Although in 2011, when referring to marriage equality, he said: “they should not be able to marry.”

Women’s rights

We women have many rights thankfully due to the strength and perseverance in our ancestors, but misogynists do not believe that women should be treated as men are treated. Fairness just isn’t their thing.

Bernie believes: “When it comes to the rights of women, we cannot go backwards. We have got to go forward.”

Hillary is a better option for women’s rights than the Republican nominee. She understands that if Trump is to become the President, he would (probably, you never know with Trump) have the government make all abortions illegal, leaving women with no choice but to have the baby.

Trump appears to say whatever is on his mind, whether that’s professional or not. He has been rather stern and extremely disgusting about his view on women. For example, Trump, when referring to women, claimed: “you have to treat ’em like shit”.

Based on the candidates’ solutions, you should vote for whom you believe would best run this country. Seriously vote, because the effects are too outstanding to ignore.
