Success! Warwick SU to provide free sanitary products

Everyone is a fan

The latest Warwick SU initiative of giving out free sanitary products has been a big hit with Warwick students so far.

A policy to provide such emergency protection was voted on in second term last year, and our Sabbs have pulled through, with 830 students out of 1023 voting for the motion to be passed.

Students who find themselves caught out and in need of such products can contact the SU Welfare Officer, Chloe Wynne, directly or visit her office.

Chloe said: “We hope that this will improve student well-being considerably.”

However, whilst most students are impressed with the success the SU have had in achieving this policy, there is a concern of embarrassment among students. Final-year student Abby Bowman explained: “I feel I wouldn’t ever go ask for them because I’d be embarrassed.”

In response, Chloe said: “From a feminist standpoint, it’s only wider society that says periods are embarrassing, dirty, or shameful in any way, so we just have to learn to own them, accept that it’s biological, and ask for help when we need it.

“The form is currently active and so people can use that if they don’t want to ask me directly.”

Warwick now joins universities such as Birmingham, Newcastle and Sussex.
