UWE the best university to work at if you’re gay

Let’s be honest, it’s the first time we’ve come first in anything

Start planning the coronation: UWE has beaten every university in England to be named one of the most gay-friendly workplaces in the country.

The uni came 11th on Stonewall’s ranking of gay-friendly employers, making it the highest-placed university on the list, beating the likes of Cardiff at 24, Manchester at 43 and Sheffield at 44.

The high position is a fantastic achievement for the university, with major names such as Lloyds Banking Group and MI5 filling out the top ten. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are leading the way for gay recruitment, coming in first place.

The news will be well received by UWE’s thriving LGBT society as well as the local gay and lesbian community.

Journalism student Olly Evans, 19, said: “The news isn’t too surprising as Bristol is such a diverse place to live in, but all the same its good to see evidence of it”.
