Lower Parliament and Milton Street closed after bus collision this morning

Two elderly people were knocked down outside the Vic centre

An elderly couple were hit by the number 39 bus at 11am this morning, outside the Victoria Centre on Lower Parliament Street.

They were treated at the scene after the arrival of three ambulances and three police cars.

A witness told The Tab: “it was an accident waiting to happen. Everyone tries to sneak over that crossing rather than waiting for the green man”.

Ophelia, third-year print journalism, was passing just after the collision took place. She said: “There were loads of police cars and ambulances around the front of vic centre and the police had cordoned off the street.

“Everyone was so shocked and some people were turning around and walking the other way to avoid the situation. I saw one of the casualties wrapped in a foil blanket.”

The man has suffered serious head injuries and the woman minor injuries. Both have been taken to the QMC for further treatment.
