Stirling uni has broken into the Times Higher Education ranking of the top 50 universities in the UK under the age of 50 for the first time, establishing our status as one of the top newcomers in the world of academia.

We’ve climbed 9 places from 56th to 47th, our highest-ever ranking in the prestigious annual table.

Stirling’s position also places us as the second best new uni in Scotland, beaten only by Dundee who are 19th in the UK.

The Times Higher Education website says the 100 under 50 table “provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential.”

Stirling scored well for citations and international outlook, but teaching standards let us down, with the university scoring an abysmally low 27 out of 100.

This low score follows the recent news the university acted illegally when it let go 140 members of staff who were on fixed term contracts.
