Last chance to sign petition in memory of Stirling student

RIP David

Mother of Stirling student David O’Halloran has urged students to sign a petition calling on the Scottish Government to improve investigation procedure.

First year student David went missing in January 2013 after a night out in Dusk. His body was found in April after he was left to walk back to campus in harsh weather.

However, police decided not to carry out an inquiry into his death.

Since then, David’s mum Donna O’Halloran has campaigned tirelessly to make nights out safer for students, including urging nightclubs to provide better care to students.

She’s also overseen the start up of the Safe Taxi scheme, which allows students to get a taxi home after a night out without paying if they provide their student number. The uni then invoices the student directly.

Donna is keen to get her inquiry petition more signatures

Donna has also launched a petition calling on the Scottish Government to improve the law and procedures regarding investigating unascertained deaths, suicides and fatal accidents in Scotland.

The petition already has 643 signatures. Donna is calling on the Stirling community to sign it before it closes on the 27th of April.

As part of her campaigning, Donna shared the shocking statistic that 30,000 inquests are held in England per year, while only 60 are held in Scotland.

She said: “Remember this is for you and yours it’s for the people of Scotland, our children, their children and their children’s children!

This petition will only run until the 27th so if you want your voice heard please sign. Or should we just let this all disappear? In the end it is up to you as I have already lost the most precious love of my life.”

You can sign the petition here until the 27th of this month. Donna would like to remind anyone filling it in to provide all the required information and when sharing the petition, to share from the original page rather than the thank you page in order to get the maximum number of signatures.

Donna added: “This won’t bring David back or protect him but it may save your love one being swept under the carpet in the future God forbid anything like that ever falls on anyone.”
