St Andrews is the best in the UK for Philosophy, Politics and Physics

Tell us something we don’t know

The Guardian’s University League Tables for 2017 is in, and it’s good news.

St Andrews is the best place in the country to study Philosophy, Physics or Politics.

We also kept our position in third place from last year, but elsewhere the top five has significantly altered.

Loughborough and Surrey came in fourth place just behind us, while Oxbridge predictably came first.

The Guardian’s league tables rank universities according to: spending per student; the student/staff ratio; graduate career prospects; what grades applicants need to get a place.

They also factor in a value-added score that compares students’ entry qualifications with their final degree results, and how satisfied final-year students are with their courses, based on results from the annual National Student Survey (NSS). Specialist tables also rank universities by subject area.
