Library short-loan times have increased

Your short loan is no longer so short

The Library has increased the length of time students can borrow Short Loan books.

Although daytime loans still stand at four hours, books checked out after five pm will now be due back at 10:30 am the following morning, rather than 9:45 am as before, seven days a week.

This change comes as a result of a project carried out by Student Services interns which suggested various changes that could be implemented to make the lives of commuter students easier. Emma, a second year mature student living in Dundee, says that she prefers to borrow books overnight so she can study while her daughter is in bed, and the new later time means she can drop her daughter off at nursery before travelling to St Andrews to return her books.

There was initial concern that some lecturers whose course readings include Short Loan books might not be happy with the new times offering students yet another excuse to be lazy, but it seems that the changes have been welcomed by pretty much everyone, particularly students who don’t have nine ams (and DRA residents), and the Library says it has not yet received any negative feedback.
