Who’s Who at the Dunhill 2015
The Stand guides you through the golf tournament’s most distinguished guests.
For the benefit of Freshers, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship comes to St Andrews every October. It’s a fairly major golf tournament, open to professionals and amateurs, and if golf is your thing it’s a great chance to watch some of the world’s greats play in the home of golf.
For the rest of us however, the Dunhill is basically the only time when you’re likely to see somebody more famous than Pat Mathewson in this wee town, and this therefore makes it acceptable to swoon over slightly sleazy celebrities old enough to be our dads. Here’s a list of this year’s, ahem, talent:
Retired German footballer Michael Ballack
Former England cricketers Sir Ian Botham, Michael Vaughan and Allan Lamb
Former Dutch footballers/managers Johan Cruyff and Ruud Gullit
Eagles’ guitarist Don Felder
Retired Portuguese footballer Luís Figo
Britain’s pre-Andy Murray tennis hero Tim Henman
Huey Lewis of Huey Lewis and the News
Former Irish rugby player Brian O’Driscoll
British rowing champion Sir Steve Redgrave
Aussie cricketer Shane Warne
Boyzone star Ronan Keating
And of course, the infamous Hugh Grant. Good luck ladies, but remember, he’s 55.
