Women in Office Launch Party

Women in Office: Encouraging positivity, perseverance and potential

Last week played host to the launch of a very exciting new team in St Andrews: Women in Office. With a phenomenal group of students, Women in Office is a non-profit organisation that is taking St Andrews by storm. While I didn’t know much about the group at first, upon my arrival I was given a warm welcome by the committee who shared with me the details of their work and aims.

The team’s main tenets provide a great perspective on what they’re all about: “Encouraging positivity, perseverance and potential.” After speaking with a number of the members, I learned that Women in Office aims to promote women’s participation in politics, business, science, and the arts. With this goal in mind, the group is working to open up more opportunities for women to get involved in businesses and work that they may not normally consider, and they are providing the chance for women and men to have equal opportunity in the work place.

It is clear that the group seeks equality of genders, encouraging both sexes to pursue their ambitions regardless of what they believe the preconceived barriers to be. Women in Office believes everyone should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. It’s clear that everyone involved agrees in the importance of their mission, and they are all working tirelessly to promote their aims.

While the launch party got the name of Women in Office out to the whole of St Andrews, their first big event will be a forum coming this fall, promising to have big-name speakers that are sure to attract a large crowd of students interested in business, equality, and the future of the work place. With a host of inspirational women coming to give speeches, participate in a panel discussion, and host group networking sessions for attendees, the big event will surely succeed in its aims to raise awareness of the lack of women in positions of power and install the confidence in young women to overcome preconceived ideas about stereotypically male dominated professions.

With such admirable goals, Women in Office is sure to achieve their aims of encouraging and inspiring women to strive for leading roles in all industry sectors. The team definitely has my support! So keep your eyes out for more promotional information on their upcoming conference, which is an event not to be missed.
