Medics bare all on stage for charity

#medicsuncovered

On Saturday 11th March 45 medics summed up the courage to strip down to their underwear on stage, in the Student Union, in aid of charity. It was a brilliant night which has so far raised a minimum of £1,400 for Hampshire air ambulance and Solent Mind.

The night consisted of: an all male routine, an all female routine and a MedSoc Revue routine, choreographed by Rebecca Davies; the MedSoc committee routine, choreographed by Rhian Jefferies and the Bluetits netball team routine, choreographed by Jenny Dale. All three choreographers did an excellent job creating dances for the brave Medics to strip to.

The night was presented by James Lyles and Steffan Llyr Williams, who did a great job of entertaining the crowd, as well as ripping painful wax strips off volunteers. The event carried on until 2am with music provided by the Medics favourite; the Jester’s DJ.

Although a brilliant night, full of bums, boobs and booze; it is important to mention the charities the Monty raised an incredible amount of money for:

Hampshire air ambulance

The charity delivers help to the people of Hampshire and Isle of Wight when they need it the most, day or night, 365 days a year. The highly skilled team of Doctors, Paramedics and Pilots are able to fly out to most places in Hampshire in 15 minutes to attend life-threatening incidents. Since 2007 the charity has flown 730 missions per year on a service which costs £9,000 to run a day and relies purely on donations from the public. Donate to Hampshire Air Ambulance here.

Solent Mind

Mind provide advise and support to support anyone suffering a mental health problem. They have a network of 140 Mind committees across England and Wales, who refuse to stop raising awareness until everyone suffering a mental health problem gets support. Mental health is a hugely overlook issue, in which many suffer in silence. Between 2015 and 2016 the charity supported 11,000 people through talking therapies and ensured that even when people are deprived of their liberties, their voice is still heard. In 2016 they raised over 5 million, however are in constant need of donations in order to provide help to anyone suffering with a mental health problem. Donate to Solent Mind here
