Body found in Southampton
A missing man was discovered in the River Itchen by the Rowing Club.
James SloninaA body of a missing man has been discovered in the River Itchen.
The search operation for 67-year-old Mr Keith Sawyer began when he did not return after leaving his home on Monday morning.
The family of Mr Sawyer have been contacted after the body was discovered in the the river, near the Woolston district of Southampton, only a 6 minute drive from Above Bar Street and the centre of town.
Police were called to the scene at 9.32am when members of the public noticed the body in the river.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said “Officers searching for the missing 67-year-old Southampton man Keith Sawyer can confirm that a body has been discovered this morning.
“Formal identification procedures have not been completed, however we can confirm the search for Mr Sawyer is not ongoing and his family have been informed of the discovery.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
