The Students’ Union have announced a new late night bus service will be running from Saturday 11th March.

Running two services on a Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning, First Buses’ 952 will pick up outside the SU and drop off at Endcliffe, Crookes, and Hillsborough.

Just in time for the end of Pop Tarts every week, it will pick up outside the union at 2.35am and 3.35am and drop off at stops including Endcliffe Vale Road, Crookes Road, Brocco Bank, and Walkley Lane.

£1 fares will still apply with a valid student card, while single and weekly/term tickets already purchased will also be accepted.

The aim of the scheme is to provide a safe, cheap, and easy way for students to get home after a night out.

Speaking of the scheme, SU President Dom Trendall said, “This is another example of how the SU stands up for students and can have a real and tangible impact on their lives.

“Our proposal for a night bus was based on feedback from students, with a route that works for as many students as possible and with student safety in mind.

“Our lobbying around bus fares, routes and safety issues will mean that students now have another cheap and safe way to get home after a night out, and we hope to expand this further in the future.”

The scheme, which was proposed to Sheffield City Council and First buses, comes after a survey was sent out asking students about their opinions on a potential late night bus service.  A total of 500 students responded to the survey, offering information about preferred drop-off points, what times they head home from the SU, and which nights they go out.
