A second year Sheff student has raised nearly £3,000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust

He was raising money after his step-dad was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer

An inspirational University of Sheffield student has raised nearly £3,000 for the Antony Nolan Trust.

Charlie Stephen and his step-dad, Simon, both shaved their hair off to raise money for the trust after Simon was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer five years ago.

Charlie, a second year sociology student, suggested that they both shave their hair off in order to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust and to encourage people to sign up for the bone marrow register.

Charlie’s mother, Pauline, was the brainchild of the event, and also arranged cake sales and a raffle for on the night of the head shave, whilst his siblings helped to get the word out.

Charlie said: “I couldn’t believe how many people turned up to the actual event, which was held at our local pub in Easter Compton just before Christmas.

“I had to nag my step dad to do it for a while because I felt it was something great to do, but he soon caved in!”

Simon’s health is deteriorating and suffers from bone pain and fatigue on a daily basis and he’s undergoing bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy.
