Sheffield ranked in the top one per cent of unis in the world

Hallam didn’t make the top 1000

According to a new list by the Centre for World University Rankings, Sheffield is the 14th best uni in the UK. Beaten only by Oxbridge and a few predictable others, we’re sitting pretty near the top of a 25,000 strong table of degree awarding institutions.

Aside from being top 20 in the UK, we were also ranked 172nd in the world, putting us firmly in the top 1 per cent of the world’s unis.

The ranking takes into account the usual list of factors including quality of teaching, alumni employment and academic citations as well as a score for “broad impact”.

This puts us ahead of Durham, Cardiff and pretty much every other uni in the world. Across town, Hallam failed to break into the top 1000, falling outside the ranking’s boundaries.

Earlier this year, QS ranked Sheffield the 80th best uni in the world and the 13th best place to study Archaeology on the planet.
