Hotlist: Week six

feat. mermaids, postcolonialism, edgy art & funny guys

Zennor

zennor

Easily the trendiest production this term (and possibly this year), Zennor looks to be one hell of a show. Written by ‘edgy thespian’ (Versa, 2014) Lamorna Ash in a collaborative process with the actors, and with an original electronic score from North East Corridor’s Tom Stafford, this isn’t to be missed. (Plus it features mermaids.)

Hodge

One of UK techno’s most exciting emerging talents’ Hodge will be playing the sweatbucket that is Cellar. Don’t be put off by the fact that techno is repetitive or the location or the mundanely phrased hype, though – Hodge infuses grime and garage into his sound, bringing an energy and aggression to his set. Gosh, even Resident Advisor even thinks he’s worth a feature.

Where: Cellar

When: Thursday, 22.30

Elephants

All about a dinner reception laced with ulterior motives and hidden agendas, Elephants is written and directed by Anthony Maskell (who also takes one of the four leads). This dark comedy of domestic drama is sure to be a ugly , claustrophobic affair – in the best way.

Where: Burton Taylor Studio

When: Tuesday – Saturday, 21.30

Why Must Rhodes Fall?

I mean, who doesn’t want to go and voyeuristically spectate our infinitely more avant-garde counterparts from the Ruskin. Private View is the first year exhibition, allowing us to peer into the work of 26 upcoming artists. Note: Be sure to wear your trendiest outfit (if stuck, go for all black, trainers, and ankle socks)

The Oxford Revue and friends

The Times calls them “The country’s brightest young comic talents”. If that wasn’t enough, they’ll be joined by The Cambridge Footlights, as well as hosting from ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ winner Ivo Graham. It’s their last event of the year, so make sure to grab a ticket and make it down.
