A student at Harris Manchester college was left shocked when he found a razor blade embedded in the seat of his bicycle.

The student had left his bike locked to racks on Mansfield Road. Returning to collect his bike last night, he noticed a sharp object protruding from his seat and reported the incident to college authorities.

It is not known who perpetrated the crime, but students have been warned to stay vigilant. An email was then sent to Oxford JCRs warning of the threat of similar acts occurring elsewhere.

The email said: “Hopefully, this was an isolated incident, but given how seriously the student could have been injured if he had used the bike, it might be worth forwarding an email on to your JCRs.”

Students who find any similar implements in their bicycles are advised to contact college authorities immediately.
