Radio 1’s Greg James to make a sporting return to Norwich

It’s one of five triathlons he’s doing this week

Norwich’s favourite radio presenter Greg James is to make an athletic return to the city this Friday.

As part of Sport Relief, the ex- UEA drama student is carrying out his “Gregathlon”, which will see him undergo a triathlon a day between Monday and Friday this week, finishing in Norwich.

The Gregathlon includes a 10 mile run, 40 mile bike ride and a one mile swim each day.

Greg plans to complete each triathlon in time for his daily radio show at 4pm, which will be broadcast from each city he races through.

Greg James’ Friday radio show will be hosted in The Forum in Norwich city centre.

His route will take him through the centre of Norwich, with aims to be running through popular student areas such as Unthank Road, so keep a look out.

Greg started his mission in Belfast on Monday

Greg James studied Drama at UEA, and admits that he didn’t make the most of his sporting ability whilst here.

He says: “At UEA, drama and radio took over and I didn’t join any sports clubs – but I did use the Sportspark a lot.

“I didn’t do much team sport when I was at uni, but when I have a goal I tend to respond very well to it.”

Norwich is one of the five cities chosen as part of the Sport Relief Flagship games, with options open for anyone to participate in runs, swims and cycles, all taking place around UEA.

Unfortunately Greg James won’t be gracing the LCR with one of his legendary DJ sets, but he is still looking forward to celebrating in Norwich on Friday night after his ordeal and radio show have been completed.

“We’re going to go and paint Norwich red after,” he said: “By which I mean have one red wine.”
