One in 25 students at Northumbria will be a victim of burglary, robbery and sexual offences

Still less likely than Newcastle students

One in 25 students at Northumbria University will be victim of crime according to new statistics.

The Complete University Guide took the number of crimes reported from July 2015 to June 2016 per one thousand residents within student areas. These crimes include burglary, robbery and violence and sexual offences. They found Newcastle University had a higher score for all crimes reported. Over three per cent of people are likely to be a victim of violence and sexual offences.

Northumbria students are one per cent less likely to be a victim of total crime and violence and sexual offences than Newcastle students. Seven months ago there was a Stand Up Against Rape march in Heaton Park in response to a rape occurrence in Heaton Park.

These statistics are based on all residents and not just students, the results are taken within wards or electoral divisions weighted by student population.
