Saltwell Park Firework Display

On Thursday 5th November, hundreds of people will flock to Gateshead’s Saltwell Park to watch the display. Each year the event grows in size and this one is set to be the biggest. Hosted by Metro Radio presenters Steve and Karen, the live music starts at 5:30pm with the fireworks starting at 7:30pm for a 35 minute display.

If you’re thinking “how do I get to Gateshead and back again?”, then there’s an easy solution. A shuttle bus runs from Central Station in Newcastle every 10 minutes and drops you off outside the park. The organisers have recommended that people don’t drive to the event due to road closures and a lack of parking.

Wristbands must be purchased prior to the event for £2, from outlets such as Eldon Square, Metrocentre, Saltwell Towers and Gateshead Leisure Centre or online.

Jesmond Fireworks

Taking place on Sunday 8th, this is usually a popular and cheap choice for students. Jesmond fireworks are located at Newcastle Cricket Club just off Osbourne Avenue, just a short walk down the road for many living in Jesmond, Sandyford or metro ride for those in Heaton.

Again, for this event tickets must be bought in advance. At £4, tickets can be bought locally, from Oxfam Books, Jesmond Pool, Jesmond library, Dene’s deli, Mistletoe bakery and Osbourne clinic.

If you’re feeling festive this event hosts a range of stalls, serving toffee apples and mulled wine. The gates open at 5pm and the fireworks take place at 7pm.

Get your teeth stuck in there

Ouseburn Community Centre Display

Another one ideal for all students is at Ouseburn in Heaton. Located on Mowbray Street, the community centre is merely a short walk down from Heaton Road. The display goes down at 6:30pm on Thursday 5th November. There is no sign of admission fee’s on the website… so hopefully this could be your chance to bag a freebie.

Get sparkly

Gosforth Round Table

A little further afield on Gosforth playing fields, this is probably a firework display more suited to the local geordies. However, all proceeds from tickets and attractions go towards local charities if you want to support a good cause.

Taking place on Saturday 7th November, the event kicks off at 6:15pm  and the display starts at 7pm. Organisers have suggested that the metro is perhaps the best mode of transport for most as there is no parking available, so you will have to get off at Fawdon and walk down.

It’s now up to you on where you go to celebrate this bonfire night with sparklers in hand and a toffee apple in your gob.
