A recent poll conducted by The Tab asked readers if NURFC should have been suspended. 68% of people that voted disagreed with Newcastle Athletic Union’s recent decision to suspend Newcastle University’s Rugby club.

The suspension follows a ‘social event’ which occurred on November 2nd and an email sent out to NURFC members stating that the ban is “indefinite” and will only be lifted when “certain measures have been put in place”.

A staggering 822 people voted, and only 32% of voters agreed with the Union’s decision.

Georgia Corbett, first year Classics and Philosophy, said: “To be honest the rugby club should be suspended for some of their crazy initiations, however they shouldn’t have been suspended for this”.

Oli Knight, third year Philosophy, said: “The Union is an institution run by students for students, although the rugby club needed some sanction, their punishment is disproportionate to their offence. Union? More like ‘loony-on’.”
