Body found in Platt Fields Park

There were reports of a dead man’s body in the lake early this morning

A man’s body was found today at 9am by the lake in Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield.

An investigation is currently taking place and the surrounding area has been closed to the public.

The fire service and an ambulance were reportedly present at the scene in south Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the body was found in the lake and that the death isn’t suspicious after a search of the surrounding woodland areas.

A GMP spokesman confirmed that officers are currently at the scene following reports of a body in the water.

He added: “Shortly before 9am on Saturday officers were called to Platt Fields Park following reports that a body had been found.

“Officers attended and found the body of a man.

“We have launched an investigation which is in the very early stages.”

One woman who was in the park this morning while the emergency services were present told the M.E.N., “A couple of the runners came walking past and said the run had been cancelled because police said there had been an incident. Everyone was told to disperse quickly.

“Then I heard someone say something about a body in the lake. Then the emergency services arrived.

“The police arrived and I saw them looking in the water, then an ambulance and fire engine arrived.”

Another man, who works in the bike shop within Platt Fields Park also spoke to the M.E.N., “I came in at about 10.45am and found the cordon. We were told not to touch a piece of clothing at the door here.

“We were just told a man’s body was found. It’s shocking and quite mysterious.”
