Man arrested near Man Met campus on suspicion of Sheffield murder

The woman was stabbed to death on Tuesday morning


A 37-year-old man has been tracked to the Manchester Met campus following a fatal stabbing of a woman in Sheffield on Tuesday.

Police were called to Gleadless Valley, Sheffield at around 8.15am on Tuesday morning following reports that a woman had been stabbed. The 22-year-old was rushed to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

A man was spotted at the scene of the crime and was then tracked to Manchester. The 37-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on Tuesday afternoon near to the Manchester Metropolitan campus. He is not believed to be a student at the university.

The man was arrested just hours after the Sheffield police launched a murder enquiry into a ‘targeted attack’ on the young woman. Officers in the crime area are still appealing for information as part of the murder probe.

The man currently remains in custody and is being questioned by detectives.
