The former student halls in Mossley Hill saw five fire engines arrive to tackle a blaze after a fire erupted at around 8.50pm on Tuesday night.

The Merseyside Fire and Rescue reported that five fire engines were sent to a building which is part of Dale Hall. The site was formerly a part of the Carnatic student village before it closed in December 2014 and had therefore, luckily, been  empty for almost 2 years. Its last use was in December 2014, when students had been placed in the building for temporary accommodation. The accommodation block is situated on Elmswood Road, opposite the back entrance to the main Carnatic site, overlooking McNair Hall.

A temporary metal fence blocking part of the property, which had acted as climbing wall to students, hindered crews trying to gain access to the building on fire.

Smoke was reportedly seen around the Aigburth Vale and Sefton Park area as a result of the incident.

Lucy, a third year English and History student who lived in Dale in December 2014, said of the incident: “No, that’s so sad! Although, to be honest it was in so dire a condition, they’re lucky it didn’t burn down sooner. “
